Because Charles lost the case on the main Mastoris residence in January, 2014 Mastoris, who had been sending Charles money every week even though he had done none of the work which was promised, Mastoris was forced to retain a local attorney. This made it impossible for him to keep paying Charles as much as he had previously. The amount was generally $1,000 a week, which was intended to ensure expenses were paid for the entire operation. But this never happened. Charles found this amount inadequate even for his personal expenses and failed to pay for such expenses as Westlaw, which was then unavailable because of none payment.
Charles was briefly back in New Orleans at the Bed and Breakfast where he had been living for most of 2013 and could not pay the rent, which was several hundred dollars a week when this letter was sent.

Subject: James Came by today around 1:30 pm
Dear Dennis, Joanne, (& James):
James came by my room at about 1:30 PM today and asked me, "are you going to leave tomorrow?" I asked him if he had seen my letter and he said he had "heard about it." I started to explain to him that I had written that I requested an extension of time and needed to know whether you are willing to work with me on both the questions of time and the sale/purchase of the property and James said, "It's just a "yes or no" question. Are you leaving tomorrow?" And since I have no way of leaving tomorrow, I said, "no."
But I just want you to know that I am deeply concerned for our friendship, ongoing relationship, and opening a dialogue about buying this place, all at the same time understanding that Dennis is still recovering and needs no stress in life
I hope you understand. I hope that WE have an understanding. I hope you will start to work with me about a possible purchase agreement. I just spoke to Michael Mastoris again. And there are other people with whom I am discussing this matter in California, also. I am hoping and praying that it is all OK with you, and that we will begin working together towards a completely positive (including "cash positive") deal here. I really want to buy this place if you're willing to sell it. I may as well stay here while we work this out, don't you agree?
Cheers!
